Position Summary:
A research technician is needed immediately to assist with in a study of saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) biology and management in southwest Florida.
Employment Period:
14 to 16 months, starting as soon as possible.
Position Description:
This is an ongoing study to document timing of saw palmetto flowering and fruiting, management techniques to enhance flowering and fruiting, and effects of fruit harvesting on wildlife populations. The position will include fieldwork (establishing research plots, marking plants, weighing fruits, etc.), preparation of soil and saw palmetto tissue samples for analysis, and data entry.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in forestry, ecology, botany, or related field, OR completion of two years toward degree plus one year experience in field biology. The applicant must be willing to work in hot, humid, and sometimes strenuous field conditions.
Salary:
Salary will be $16,000 - 17,600/yr (commensurate with education and experience).
