Geographic distribution of ants was determined at the county level. For ants, distribution was determined primarily from published sources specific to the state of Florida and from the unpublished collection data of D. P. Wojcik and C. R. Allen. The availability and quality of data varied by county and taxa. For several counties largely in private ownership, and for several recently described or uncommonly sampled species, limited data was available. We interpolated distributions in counties lacking data, based on the presence or absence of species in adjacent counties and knowledge of the species general range. All distribution maps were reviewed by recognized experts in their respective fields. Habitat affinities for ants were determined primarily from literature review. Knowing which habitats are used by an ant allowed us to produce maps which are habitat specific.
