Scientist/UAV Research Program Coordinator
The Florida Unit coordinates an interdisciplinary research program using a small, autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for ecological research. Current applications include wildlife surveys, habitat classification, and invasive species detection. Applications to be developed are marine debris monitoring, near-shore current modeling, and other uses in agriculture, forestry, and ecological restoration. Watts's academic interests include restoration ecology, ecological resilience, and adaptive management, with previous experience in reproductive ecology of Florida alligators, fire and mechanical disturbance in Florida ecosystems, and agroforestry extension in sub-Saharan West Africa.

Administrative Assistant
Responsible for all the administrative functions of a $3 million annual research program at the University of Florida. Supervises the Database Manager and student assistants. Responsible for managing budget for all contracts & grants and research work orders, fiscal reports, travel, purchasing, personnel, property, and arranging meetings. Administratively supports the Unit Leader and two Assistant Unit Leaders who are employed with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Assists in developing budgets and other documents for research proposals and executing contracts. Assists the staff in all budgetary and administrative matters; interfaces with personnel and WEC fiscal offices regarding various personnel actions and fiscal processes. Provides monthly status reports on all accounts within the Unit. Reconciles federal bank statements and 268 reports. Assists with the purchasing on a Federal account within the Unit and interfaces with the USGS Headquarters Office in Reston, VA in administering these funds.
