Course description:
Systematic reviews help conservation biologists and managers by summarizing large bodies of evidence and helping to explain differences among studies asking the same question. Systematic reviews differ from a ‘traditional’ review process in that the former is both exhaustive and systematic - the process of study inclusion into the systematic review is transparent, and should therefore be repeatable in its conclusions. Systematic reviews have revolutionized medicine over the past 20 years, and have recently been applied to conservation biology. In this course students will be introduced to the process of systematic reviews, focusing on its application to conservation and management of wildlife and natural resources. The course will include lectures and discussions, and a group project.
