WGSA Travel Awards

To encourage graduate students to participate in their professional and academic arenas, each year the Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation makes funds available for graduate students to attend conferences/symposiums for presenting research. These funds are administered by the Wildlife Graduate Student Association (WGSA). Further matching funds may also be provided by the Institute For Agricultural Sciences (IFAS).

The maximum travel award is $250.

WEC travel award amounts and disbursement protocol

  1. Awards are normally $250 from WEC (with a potential for matching funds from IFAS).
  2. If money still remains, additional awardees can be funded for that award period. These additional awards however, may be smaller than for the other award recipients (e.g. If 6 awards are available for the period but $100 remains, a 7th person can receive an award of $100).
  3. Travel money not allocated at a particular deadline will be rolled over to the next deadline. This will therefor increase the available number of awards at that deadline. These additional awards however, may be smaller than for the other award recipients (e.g. If 6 awards are available for the period and $100 is rolled over from the previous period, a 7th person can receive an award of $100).
  4. All rolled-over money in addition to money allocated for that particular deadline will be divided equally among all recipients of awards (for that deadline) with no upper limit (however, IFAS will only match $200 of this award)."
